How do I use it? Basically, gently shave a small quantity of magnesium into a pile (about the size of a nickel), surround it with dry tinder then strike the magnesium rod with the striker on the pile of shavings.
If you've never used a magnesium fire starter it does take a little practice to make a fire. Practice, practice, practice! Don't wait until you need it. Practice BEFORE you need it.
